"He that committeth sin is of the devil." (1 John 3:8) "But," you say, "it is the body that sins and not the soul." Let's look into God's book, (1 Cor. 6:18)"For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies;" (Matt. 15:19). Now, as we have found out where these things come from, let's see just a little further in God's Word, "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." (Gal. 5:19-21). The next two verses, if you will read them, show the opposite--that of the Spirit. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law." (Gal. 5:22-23).
"Oh," you say, "I have been born again and I can't be lost." Say, my Friend, don't fool yourself! Don't deceive your own heart! God's salvation is on condition all the way through and it is up to us how we let Him have Hid way with us. We can take our own soul in our own hands. "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment, delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb. The dog is turned to his own vomit again: and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." (2 Peter 2:20-22). "Wherefore let him that thinketh." (Phil. 2:12). "Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent ." (Rev. 2:5).
It is not him that starts in the race that wins, but the Bible says,"But he that endureth to the end shall be saved." (Matt. 10:22). "But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abomination that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he done shall not be mentioned; in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned in them shall he die." (Ezek. 18:24). "Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he reap." (Gal. 6:7). "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." (1 John 2:4).
If you commit sins you must repent and have them forgiving for if God's Word is true we can't get to Heaven with sin on us. Don't let the devil deceive you because you have at one time known the lord, but you know you are not living a Christian life. Don't let him tell you that you will be saved anyhow. That is one of the devil's lies. be sure you are saved now! And know every sin is under the Blood. You read the fifteenth chapter of the Gospel of John. What happened to the branch that was already connected with the vine and failed to bear fruit? It was cut off and burned. Jesus was making a clear parable of what would happen to us if we do not abide in Him. Don't let the devil cheat you out of Heaven and don't teach such false docrines to others. For you can't be a Christian and a sinner at the sametime. The Word says. "Ye can not serve God and mammon." Which do you serve? Be honest; tell the truth!
We read in (1 John 2:1), "Sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous." We are commanded not to sin. God's grace is able to help us to live a life above sin, but if you commit sin the only wise thing to do is to come back to Jesus and ask him to forgive. He is ready to help you, but you can not get to Heaven with sin on you. flee to Jesus at once! My Friend, sin is sin and we must be rid of it to get to heaven. Is your record clear now?
"Oh!" you say, "I am my Father's child because I was born unto Him and I am His child. It doesn't matter where I go or what I do." Nowm let's reason a little. Your Father can disinhert you, and listen--you can go away from father's home. That Father may plead with you not to leave, but you can turn it all down and go away into a far country. That Father may send message after message to you and beg and pled with you to come back, but you can refuse and say, :No!" And with all the love the Father has for you, you can die away from Father's home. Say, my Friend, you can go away from God, with all the pleadings of the Spirit and with all the love he has for you, you can say, "No!" and go out into sin and die away from God, lost! Oh, let's turn to Him and let Him have His way with us.
Here is another thought. Let's say I go to a store and run an account with the merchant for a while. Then one day I go to the store and say, "I want to pay all I owe you and I want you to give me a clear receipt paid up to date." That is just what God does when He pardons us. But, say in a few days I go back to the store and start another account and I go on for several weeks buying and never say anything about paying some on your account?"
"What about payinf some on your account?" What would you think if I said, "Why what do you mean?" What are you taking about?" Why I paid you a long time ago. Here is a clear receipt signed by you and it has the date when paid." You would say, "Yes, I know that old account has been settled and I am not bringing it up against you any more, but here is a bill you have bought since then and it has not been paid for."
Say, Friend, God's plan works just the same. What about you? Do you have a clear record at this moment? The Lord help us to let him have His way with us? I like that song:
